ABOUT THE REBAR ESTIMATOR POSITION

Our Estimating Team takes on an important role here at Shaw Steel Services. Our estimators determine how much rebar, welded mesh and accessories are required for proposed concrete structures as well as the sizes and bends required for construction on site. They prepare accurate bids and detailed takeoffs and ensure smooth project execution. 

We are currently looking for a skilled Rebar Estimator with 3-5 years of experience in rebar estimating within the Alberta construction industry. This is a great role for a candidate who is looking for career development and wants to learn more about the end-to-end project cycle as there will be opportunities for advancement. Individuals with less experience may be considered for a developmental role. 

The primary duty of the Rebar Estimator is to set up, structure and perform detailed Take Offs, and ensure smooth project execution by determining how much and what sizes of rebar, welded wire mesh, and accessories are required in a reinforced concrete structure on small to medium sized projects. 

The Rebar Estimator needs to have a strong construction sense, the ability to read structural and architectural drawings proficiently, and good interpretation and communication skills. This can be an exciting position as the Rebar Estimator is one of the first people in the business to see upcoming projects in detail.

REPORTING & RELATIONSHIPS

Reporting to the CEO, this position works closely with Business Development, the Construction and Project Managers, as well as the Field Team.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

· Set up and structure Take Offs

· Perform project Take Offs

· Manage incoming project information

· Create and submit requests for information if required

· Quality control project Take Offs

· Risk Management:

· Identify high risk items and report

· Identify long lead time items and report

· Identify outsourced items and request pricing

· Participate in tender to active contract

· Execute change order requests

· Other duties as required

ABOUT YOU

Your experience in Alberta construction has given you a strong construction sense. You are motivated, detail oriented, and enjoy working as part of a team. You are collaborative, personable and approachable with your colleagues and clients.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/EDUCATION

Required: 

· 3-5 + years’ experience in rebar estimating, reinforcing steel detailing, or structural estimating 

· Proven strong ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings

· Demonstrated broad and current knowledge of Alberta Construction Standards

· Experience with rebar estimating or detailing software (RebarCAD, ASA, CADS, or similar)

· Excellent math, analytical, and organizational skills

· Strong communication skills and ability to deliver within deadlines

· Related Post Secondary Program (required)
